Dear Ms Doe;
Revolted by Bush and the Republicans? Disappointed and dismayed that Democrats have done little or nothing for over 6 months?
You should consider the Green Party. The Green Party of Michigan (GPMI) is looking for members, for activists, for campaigners, for candidates. The qualifications are simple. Believe that you can better represent yourself and your community than Bush and the current crop of Democrats. Believe that grassroots democracy, social justice, environmental wisdom and non-violence are a set of goals worth working for. And, you should understand that government of the corporations, by the corporations and for the corporations works against those goals. You should conclude that running candidates against the two corporate parties is one good way of advancing those goals.
GPMI is short on money. We don't have enough people to do everything that needs to be done. We don't have a lot of political power. However, there is one thing that we do have, and that is ballot access. We can select candidates for any partisan office in Michigan – from township supervisor to United States senator. In between, there are elective offices at all levels of government.
We've had candidates in the general elections of 2002, 2004 and 2006. We know a lot about election laws, campaign finance requirements, and the mechanics of running campaigns. We're willing to share with you and also willing to learn more. We expect to have a campaign and fundraising school sometime in the next few months, and we would like to hear from you if you might be interested.
If you are ready to work for democracy to replace the two-party system that's preventing peace, democracy, social justice and environmental stewardship, then we are ready for you. Please call or e-mail us; (734) 663-3555 or
chair@migreens.org to let us know that you are interested.
Sincerely yours,
Ken Mathenia
