Repulsed by Republicans? Disgusted by Democrats?
Ready to oppose the two-party system?
The Green Party of Michigan is looking for supporters, members and candidates. On the 2010 Michigan ballot, thousands of positions from Township Supervisor to Governor will be up for election. If you support the principles of ecological wisdom, social justice, grassroots democracy and non-violent resistance, then you are already a small-g green. If you are ready to do something about it in the electoral arena, you should think about joining and maybe even becoming a candidate.
The Green Party of Michigan is opposed to Obama as we were opposed to Bush on the following vital issues:
- Obama, like Bush, is for wars to secure a supply of oil. We are for real reductions in burning fossil fuels, which would reduce our need for oil while stabilizing our climate.
- Obama, like Bush, is for the growth whose success is measured in stock prices and corporate profits. We are for sustainability, whose success is measured in meeting human needs without wrecking the environment.
- Obama, like Bush, is for maintaining and strengthening the secret police powers of the state. We are for limiting those powers with enforcable respect for human rights and replacing secrecy with open information.
- Obama, like Bush, is for reviving the economy from the top down. We are for recreating it from the bottom up.
It does not mean that we are automatically opposed to every single thing that Obama has done or might do. It does mean when it comes to questions of war, of the direction our economy should develop, of democracy and human rights versus police powers, and of the methods by which the government should intervene in the failing economy - we disagree and we strongly advocate an alternative approach. We see that Obama's approach to these issues undermines democracy, sustainability, social justice and peace.
The Green Party is on the ballot in Michigan to give voters a better choice than settling for the lesser of two evils.

This site is for collaborative work within the Green Party of Michigan. Various pages are listed on the left side of the screen. Members can add new pages or change old ones as needed.
For the purpose of having a a party organization controlled from the bottom up, proposals in discussion or voting phases on the State Central Committee are posted on the SCC Proposals page. Any member can see the proposals and comment on them to their SCC representative or party officers.
As with any Wiki, the site is what the participants make it. I think it is a useful tool. I'd like to see more people using it.
